General Overview:

 1. Objective

2. Who needs it?

The BIS certificate under the FMCS scheme is mandatory for foreign manufacturers who want to sell specific products in India and need to comply with Indian quality standards. This applies to a wide range of product categories, such as electrical and electronic products, mechanical products, etc.

 3. Application Process

-  Step 1: The foreign manufacturer applies to BIS by submitting the necessary application along with product details, factory information, and proof of compliance with international standards.

-  Step 2: BIS will review the application and may conduct a factory inspection to verify manufacturing practices.

-  Step 3: If the manufacturer complies with the required standards, BIS issues the FMCS certification for the products.

-  Step 4: Once the application is approved, the foreign manufacturer is granted permission to export and sell their products in India with the BIS mark.

BIS can visit the factory of the foreign manufacturer to check that their manufacturing and quality control process meet the corresponding Indian standards. The procedure could be as follows:
