The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is responsible for ensuring the safety and quality of items sold in India. Providing a mechanism for acquiring import/export licenses** for certain products that must satisfy Indian quality standards prior to import or export is one of its mandates. The licenses ensure that products entering or departing the nation meet strict standards for performance, safety, and consumer protection.
