Details of ECOMARK -SERVICE

Ecomark  is a certification mark launched by the Government of India to encourage the use of environmentally friendly products and services. The Ecomark certification is given to products that are deemed to have a lesser environmental impact than other similar products in the market. The Ecomark initiative is a part of India's broader environmental policies aimed at encouraging sustainable consumption and production, contributing to environmental conservation, and creating awareness among consumers regarding eco-friendly products.

The primary aim of the Ecomark mark is to:

- Promote Eco-Friendly Products : Stimulate the formulation and use of products that are more environmental friendly.

- Environmental Consciousness: Educate the consumer to realize the environmental impacts associated with everyday usage of such products.

- Pollution Prevention: Minimize pollution and waste generation through the consumption of environmentally safe and eco-friendly products.

- Promote Green Economy : Advocate for green businesses and persuade the industries to incorporate cleaner production technologies.

- Increase Market Demand for Green Products : Develop market demand for those products that carry a lower impact on the environment.

Products have to fulfill specific environmental criteria as defined by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS)  to be eligible for Ecomark certification. The criteria vary according to the product category, but common factors include:

- Reduction in Environmental Impact : Products must have a lesser negative impact on the environment in terms of production, usage, and disposal.

- Use of Environmentally Friendly Materials : The product is created from non-toxic, non-hazardous materials or materials that can be easily recycled without harming the environment.

- Energy Efficiency : The product reduces energy consumption through its use phase.

- Reduce Waste Generation : Products that may reduce generation of wastes. For example, products, which may be biodegradable, or products designed to facilitate recycling without harming the environment.

- Pollution Control : Products should be manufactured in a way that minimizes pollution, such as reducing emissions during production.

- Compliance with Environmental Regulations : The product and its manufacturing process must comply with national environmental laws and regulations.

            4. Categories of Products Eligible for Ecomark Certification

Ecomark certification is available for a range of product categories, including but not limited to:

-Paper Products: Recycled paper, notebooks made from the eco-friendly sources, and bags.

-Cleaning Products: Environmentally friendly soaps, detergents, and cleaning products.

-Packaging Materials: The materials that can be recycled, minimizing plastics and other plastic uses, as well as replacing with other alternative packaging.
